Chemical dependency refers to alcohol, drug or prescription medication abuse. If you find you cannot quit drinking or using entirely, or if you have little control over the amount you consume, you probably struggle with addiction. If you deal with life's inevitable problems with attempting find a Quick Fix or Mood Changer, you likely have a problem. If that is the case, you may be suffering from a problem which is best addressed with a spiritual solution. If you want to change your thinking and change your life, this is the forum for you.

All Addictions are a form of Idolatry. The word “addiction” derives from the Latin word, ” addere,” which means “to devote. Addiction is the state of being enslaved to a habit, behavior or practice that is psychologically or physically habit-forming. Physical dependence is not the real essence of a bad habit--what some people call an addiction. The Psychiatric Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) agrees. From my perspective any behavior can be an addiction if it interferes with your values, harms others, or takes you away too much from what you really want in life.   Most addictions are copying mechanisms generate from corrupt thinking. God wants to change your thinking, if you will be open to Him.

Celebrate Recovery is in my view a form of Cognitive behavior therapy  that is based on the idea that feelings and behaviors are caused by a person's thoughts, not on outside stimuli like people, situations and events. People may not be able to change their circumstances, but they can change how they think about them (Higher Power of Holy Spirit) and therefore change how they feel and behave. Think about this premise. If your thinking is based on the work of Holy Spirit,  then how you think and feel will change your behavior and your actions. You will have a new Purpose in life. All change ultimately occurs because of decisions (THINKING) people make for themselves. The most powerful techniques for bringing about change, therefore, allow people to follow their own VALUES and preferences. When do people change? When they want to. When MOTIVATED to do so. Change your thinking and let God change your life.

Celebrate Recover is a form of Cognitive Behavior aka Christian Behavior Therapy using Biblical principles and mores, specifically utilizing the 8 Beatitudes. You deal with hurts, habits or hangups from a biblical philosophical perspective, with emphasis on socially and morally appropriate behavior as taught by God Himself in the pages of the Bible. If you contemplate God long enough, something surprising happens in the brain. Neural functioning begins to change. Different circuits become activated, while others become deactivated. New dendrites are formed, new synaptic connections are made, and the brain becomes more sensitive to subtle realms of experience, such as prayer. Perceptions alter, beliefs begin to change, and if God has meaning for you, then God becomes neurologically real. Think-Feel-Act.

Carl Rogers, arguably the most influential Psychologist of 20th Century said, “When you first accept yourself as you truly are, only then can you begin to change.”

CBT emphasizes taking personal responsibility. Instead of playing the “accuse and excuse” game of victimization, it will help you face up to your own poor choices and deal with things you can do something about. We cannot control all that happens to us, but we can control how we choose to respond to what happens to us. That is a secret of happiness. When we stop wasting time fixing the blame, we have more energy to fix the problem.  When we stop hiding our own faults and stop hurling accusations at others, when we stop looking for the Quick Fix, the mood changer, we can and will overcome Dis-Ease. Then and only then can the healing power of Christ can begin working in our hearts, our minds, our wills, and our emotions.

"I am a Surrendered Believer in Jesus Christ with Free Will and I CHOSE Surrender (Intelligent Delegation) in my victory over, “Recreational Chemical Abuse, my weekend, "False Idols."
"I chose DIRECT health assertive Christ Driven Behavior (CDB) instead of DISPLACED behavior in order to regain control over feeling helpless, powerless, trapped and lacking control. I changed my, "Thinking," and God changed my life."

There is no reason why anyone with any hurt, habit, or hang up cannot be helped. The Person-God partnership simply needs to be more powerful than any hurt, habit or hangup.

Behind everything you do is a THOUGHT.

Every BEHAVIOR is motivated by a BELIEF.

Every ACTION is prompted by an ATTITUDE.

With respect to behavior, life is about, emotions, beliefs, thinking and control.

"A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back."Proverbs 29:11 (Displaced Behaviors)

"Do not be conformed by this world but instead by the renewing of your mind." Romans 12:2 (Direct Behavior)

When you think and empower yourself and surrender control to God, when you Intelligently Delegate Control to God (2 Corinthians 12:9-10),

God returns that control to you with a, “Helper," the Holy Spirit, (John 14:16) a form of Reciprocal Innervation.

You regain control: "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

No longer are you subject to corrupted displaced thinking but instead are transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2).

This is where science and scripture intertwine, where Christ Driven Behavior brings, values, control, cause, character and purpose driven behavior, the fruits of the spirit Galatians 5:22-23 .

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Proverbs 29:11 "A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back."

Romans 12:2: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

2 Corinthians 12-9:“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

John 14:16: "He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—"

Philippians 2:13: "for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure."

Galatians 5:22-23 "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Ephesians 4:22-23 "...put away the old person you used to be. Have nothing to do with your old sinful life. It was sinful because of being fooled into following bad desires. Let your minds and hearts be made new."

Life is about finding Purpose. When you have a, "Global Purpose," in life, healthy direct assertive thinking and behavior follow.

Change your thinking, change your life!
