What is Anger?

Anger is a symptom, just like any hurt, habit or hangup can be symptom. Anger is a symptom of something wrong that is considered very important to the individual.  Addictive compulsive acts are never random, they always have a cause. Addiction is a displaced behavior that humans exhibit in a specious effort to regain control of their lives. When something in our lives is profoundly stressful (conscious or not) and very important to the individual, causing  a FEELING of helplessness, trapped, powerless and out of control, we as humans attempt to regain that control, sometimes with compulsive addictive behavior.  There is no better example than anger.

Road Rage is a classic example of the symptom-anger. For example, if I am cut off the road for no apparent reason by a careless driver, I feel momentarily helpless and out of control and may become angry with the full gamut of verbal expletives and hand gestures.  As crazy as that sounds, when we freak out in a fit of anger, we are attempting to regain control of a previously uncontrolled situation!  Anger is a compulsive behavior that is an attempt to reverse or regain control of the situation back to ourselves. The cause and drive are the same.  It's all about loss of control and the way we humans attempt to regain that lost control. Think about this in your life. Pause, meditate and pray about what causes emotional turmoil in your life. There is always one common denominator: a feeling of loss of control and helplessness,  even if only for the moment.

With CR we give control to God and corrupt compulsive, symptomatic, addictive behavior is controlled. Hurts, habits and hangups are overcome. With God as our psychotherapist, we anticipate those target moments that precede the compulsive behavior. When we give God control, He returns the control to us, empowering us with direct appropriate behavior based on His biblical values and mores.

2 Corinthians 12:9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for there is power in weakness."

This is what, “Surrender,” is all about.  Surrender is about, “Intelligent Delegation (ID). “ Simply deciding to delegate control to a more qualified Person.  Surrender is Obedience to God and involves a simple but profound decision, a yes or no decision, to make Christ the, “Chief Operation Officer, in your life.”

John 14:16-17 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—  17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

When you Surrender your life to Christ, you don’t lose control, in fact you regain control of your anger! You gain control of your life. With God's grace you turn a weakness into a new power! The Holy Spirit returns that control to you as, “Reciprocal Facilitation (you give to God-He gives back to you RF).” The bottom line is that you think before you act and you think with the character, values, motivation and purpose of Christ. This is God’s promise in John 14:16-17.

The bottom line with anger or any hurt, habit or hangup is that when confronted with circumstances that cause us to feel helpless, powerless and lacking control we have two choices.

  1. A displace behavior such as anger.

  2. A direct behavior, a Christ Driven Behavior where we give God Control (ID) and that Control is returned to us (RF) so that we regain control of our circumstance our angry behavior, by thinking and acting with the values, character and purpose of Jesus Christ.

Change your thinking and change your life! Romans 12:2 (People may not be able to control their external circumstances, but they can change how they THINK about them and therefore change how they feel and behave).

Understanding helpless situations isn't Rocket Science.
Understanding is, accepting God and Science-The great partnership more powerful than any affliction.

Science is the accumulation of observable data that conforms to the requirements of objectivity and reproducibility.
Faith is obeying God and leaving the consequences to HIM. That is faith in perfection.

"I am a Surrendered Believer in Jesus Christ with Free Will and I CHOSE Surrender (Intelligent Delegation) in my victory over, “Recreational Chemical Abuse, my weekend, "False Idols."
"I chose DIRECT health assertive Christ Driven Behavior (CDB) instead of DISPLACED behavior in order to regain control over feeling helpless, powerless, trapped and lacking control. I changed my, "Thinking," and God changed my life."

There is no reason why anyone with any hurt, habit, or hang up cannot be helped. The Person-God partnership simply needs to be more powerful than any hurt, habit or hangup.

Behind everything you do is a THOUGHT.

Every BEHAVIOR is motivated by a BELIEF.

Every ACTION is prompted by an ATTITUDE.

With respect to behavior, life is about, emotions, beliefs, thinking and control.

"A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back."Proverbs 29:11 (Displaced Behaviors)

"Do not be conformed by this world but instead by the renewing of your mind." Romans 12:2 (Direct Behavior)

When you think and empower yourself and surrender control to God, when you Intelligently Delegate Control to God (2 Corinthians 12:9-10),

God returns that control to you with a, “Helper," the Holy Spirit, (John 14:16) a form of Reciprocal Innervation.

You regain control: "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

No longer are you subject to corrupted displaced thinking but instead are transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2).

This is where science and scripture intertwine, where Christ Driven Behavior brings, values, control, cause, character and purpose driven behavior, the fruits of the spirit Galatians 5:22-23 .

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Proverbs 29:11 "A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back."

Romans 12:2: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

2 Corinthians 12-9:“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

John 14:16: "He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—"

Philippians 2:13: "for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure."

Galatians 5:22-23 "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Ephesians 4:22-23 "...put away the old person you used to be. Have nothing to do with your old sinful life. It was sinful because of being fooled into following bad desires. Let your minds and hearts be made new."

Life is about finding Purpose. When you have a, "Global Purpose," in life, healthy direct assertive thinking and behavior follow.

Change your thinking, change your life!
