What I have learned at CR: Being a Believer will keep you from Hell, but it won’t keep you from Hell on Earth.

With Celebrate Recovery, I’ve learned that only Surrender will keep you from Hell on Earth because it will enable you to deal with the inevitable adversity that is part of life.

I've been a believer all my adult life. The other half of the battle, the more difficult half, is unequivocally, SURRENDER. In my opinion, no one is going to defeat/control their hurts habits or hangups without surrendering their life to Christ, without giving control to Christ. This is extremely difficult for men.  I use to think Surrendering was a weakness. Surrendering is not a weakness at all, Surrender is Intelligent Delegation! (2 Corinthians 12: 9-10). Mathew 22: 37. With Intelligent Delegation,  we are giving Control to God which in fact liberates us for more important work, to do God’s will, His purpose for us.

In my life, I purposely avoided the Greatest Law, “To love God with ALL your heart, mind and soul.” I refused to give 100%, I refused to Surrender. Surrender would have caused me to give up my weekend false idols! Surrender is about on or off.  Surrender is about CHOICE. When it comes to obeying God, there are only two responses: I will or I won’t.  If you are a smart Believer the act of surrending is the smart thing to do.  Surrendering is executing what you BELIEVE based on your new THINKING and doing it every day.  That’s having a Purpose, to be obedient to God through Surrender. That’s easy to say but hard to do, it all starts with a simple CHOICE. Yes or No.  All humans have free will and the ability to choose. All humans can change the way they think if they make it a purpose in their lives. Only as we use this wonderful, terrible gift of free choice for its greatest purpose—surrender—do we finally find freedom.

How do you know you have surrendered? Obedience is the evidence of Surrender. The word obedience is defined as: compliance to the plan; conformity to the pattern; observance of the rules; adherence to the standard; and submission to another’s will. Obedience is the “bottom line” in the Christian life. Who is in charge of your life, you or God? Make up your own mind-choose.
God is God and I am not.

Successful Surrender requires choosing steps that are specific, reasonable, and measurable. For example, if you want to know Christ more intimately, you might commit to spending 30 minutes each day praying and reading His Word. Subscribe to devotional emails that await you each and every morning. After developing your plan and the steps to accomplish it, put your desire into action. If you don't take the necessary steps, it will simply remain a wish. No one develops intimacy and Surrender with Christ through good intentions; it takes commitment, diligence, and perennial, perseverance. "Intellectual darkness is the result of ignorance, but spiritual darkness is the result of something that I do not intend to obey." Chambers, Oswald

No matter what you desire to do, some element of practice is required for the end result to be excellent, so it is with surrender. There’s an old saying: “If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well.” That’s the goal in the development of your God-given talents. That’s Surrender, that’s the ultimate expression of faith and a prerequisite to overcoming any hurt, habit or hang-up.

There is no reason why anyone with any hurt, habit, or hang up cannot be helped. The Person-God partnership simply needs to be more powerful than any hurt, habit or hangup.

Behind everything you do is a THOUGHT.

Every BEHAVIOR is motivated by a BELIEF.

Every ACTION is prompted by an ATTITUDE.

-----------------------------------------------------------

With respect to behavior, life is about, emotions, beliefs, thinking and control.

"A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back."Proverbs 29:11 (Displaced Behaviors)

"Do not be conformed by this world but instead by the renewing of your mind." Romans 12:2 (Direct Behavior)

When you think and empower yourself and surrender control to God, when you Intelligently Delegate Control to God (2 Corinthians 12:9-10),

God returns that control to you with a, “Helper," the Holy Spirit, (John 14:16) a form of Reciprocal Innervation.

You regain control: "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

No longer are you subject to corrupted displaced thinking but instead are transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2).

This is where science and scripture intertwine, where Christ Driven Behavior brings, values, control, cause, character and purpose driven behavior, the fruits of the spirit Galatians 5:22-23 .

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17.

------------------------------------------------------------

Proverbs 29:11 "A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back."

Romans 12:2: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

2 Corinthians 12-9:“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

John 14:16: "He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—"

Philippians 2:13: "for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure."

Galatians 5:22-23 "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Ephesians 4:22-23 "...put away the old person you used to be. Have nothing to do with your old sinful life. It was sinful because of being fooled into following bad desires. Let your minds and hearts be made new."

Life is about finding Purpose. When you have a, "Global Purpose," in life, healthy direct assertive thinking and behavior follow.

Change your thinking, change your life!
